St Saud Lacoussière

SAINT SAUD in Perigord, a 60000 hectares village, situated at the limit of Limousin, will seduce you thanks to its green countyside rich in rivers and forests.
Crossed by the river Dronne, the water of which are exceptionnal, Saint Saud is the perfect place for fishing or walking. While going for a walk, you will discover old mills turned into houses ; Grandcoing mill which has been modernized is the only one which is still an important economical place.

During the IX th century, some monks came and settled in St Saud in many hamlets : Veille Abbaye, Peyrouse then Bonnefond.
Our romaesque church datingback to the XII th century was restored in 1952 and 1957. You can admire there very particular frescos, representing the Way of the Cross and wooden statues from the abbey of Perouse.
In this church, Priest Julien also named George Rocal, practised his priesthood for 60 years. Famous writer, he wrote many books about the cutoms of our region (the old religious and magic customs in Périgord, the Croquants of Périgord....).

Today, mostly agricultural, our villageis opened to tourism thanks to its production (calf fed by its mother) and the richness of its lakes, rivers, forests where cepes grow.
Our village welcomes you in "Grand Etang" developped for swimming, fishing, in its restaurants, its hotels, its guest houses or its camping sites.

1050 inhabitants, which was named Coussière upon Dronne last century, is mestled in a plateau covered with woods which protects it from cold winds.

Priviledged place for "Green Toursim", attracting many fishermen and swimmers thanks to carefully-laid lakes, as well as nature lovers.

St Saud is one of the best known place of Perigord Gastronomy, thanks to its cepes, Foie Gras, ostriches' meat and its know-how.

It is 2km far from Miallet, 20km from Nontron or Thiviers, 45km from Périgueux or Limoges.

You can find many shops there such as :

- a chemistry, doctors, a post office,
- a baker's, a tobacco and news paper's shop, a grocer's, restaurants.

There is also a lake where you can swim or where children can play under the close watch of swimming instructors, you can also eat there.

During July and August, many festivities are organized (dinners, fireworks).

During the other months, there are also numerous festivities (Calf day, Cepes' festivity).
